Kumamoto to Takachiho Gorge — Valley of theGods.

An inland pilgrimage from Kumamoto Castle into the mountains of Miyazaki, arriving at Takachiho Gorge — where Japanese mythology says the gods descended to earth. The route climbs through the Aso caldera rim, follows the Gokase River valley, and ends in one of Japan's most sacred and dramatic landscapes. The basalt gorge walls, carved by the Gokase River, rise 80–100m; rowboats let you drift beneath the Manai Falls curtain.
