Sadamisaki Peninsula — Shikoku's Westernmost Finger.
Japan's narrowest peninsula stretches 50km west from Yawatahama into the Bungo Channel, measuring just 2–10km across. Route 197 — the Sadamisaki Melody Line — follows the south coast through citrus groves and fishing hamlets, with the Iyo Sea to the north and Bungo Channel to the south simultaneously visible at the thinnest section near Ikata. At the tip, Cape Sadamisaki Lighthouse marks the westernmost point of Shikoku. A ferry from Misaki to Saganoseki (Oita) makes this a natural gateway into Kyushu.

The route.
MatsuyamaStart · Start in Matsuyama, Shikoku's largest city. Dogo Onsen (Japan's oldest hot spring) and Matsuyama Castle are excellent early-morning stops. Head southwest on Route 197 toward Yawatahama.
Yawatahama Fish MarketRestaurant · Yawatahama's vibrant fish market is the gateway to the Sadamisaki Peninsula. The city is a major port for the Bungo Channel fishery. Morning sashimi sets at quayside restaurants are outstanding — especially local sea bream (tai) and horse mackerel (aji).
Ikata — Melody Line Dual Sea ViewScenic Point · At Ikata the peninsula narrows to under 3km. Standing on the south coast road, both the Iyo Sea to the north and the Bungo Channel to the south are simultaneously visible. The road curves dramatically along citrus-planted hillsides above the water.
Cape Sadamisaki — Westernmost ShikokuEnd · The westernmost point of Shikoku island. The road ends at Misaki village; a short walk reaches the lighthouse and cape monument. The Bungo Channel ferry (Misaki–Saganoseki, ~70 minutes) departs from here for those continuing into Kyushu. The north coast return gives a different view of the peninsula.
