A half-day mountain escape from Agadir into the western High Atlas foothills. The road climbs from the banana plantations of Aourir into a palm-lined limestone gorge with turquoise rock pools — Paradise Valley — then continues on a twisty single-lane ribbon to Imouzzer Ida Outanane, the honey capital of Morocco. Quiet tarmac, big views, and back at the coast for sunset.

AgadirStart · Start on Agadir's beachfront and head north on the N1 coast road. Fuel up in town — there are no stations beyond Aourir on the mountain road.

Aourir — Banana VillageScenic Point · Roadside stalls sell bananas from the surrounding plantations. Turn inland here onto the R7002 toward Paradise Valley. Surf town Taghazout is 5km further up the coast.

Paradise Valley Rock PoolsPhoto Spot · Turquoise pools in a palm-filled limestone gorge. Park at the signed car park and walk 20 minutes down. Pools can be nearly dry late summer — best December to May.

Imouzzer Ida OutananeRestaurant · Hilltop honey capital of Morocco — try amlou (argan, almond and honey paste). Thursday is souk day. The famous waterfall below town flows mainly in spring.

AgadirEnd · Retrace the gorge road down to the coast — the light through the palms is best late afternoon. Watch for gravel patches on the hairpins.
