Shakotan Peninsula — Cape Kamui Blue Coast.
A day loop along Hokkaido's most striking coastline, where the Sea of Japan turns a luminous turquoise known as "Shakotan Blue". From the canal town of Otaru the road threads past the historic Nikka whisky distillery at Yoichi, then out along sheer cliffs to Cape Kamui, a dramatic finger of rock jutting into the open sea. Roads are well-paved and quiet outside the short summer season.
