Nissho Pass — Trans-Hokkaido Highway (Route 274).
The Nissho Pass is one of the highest paved crossings in Hokkaido at 1,022m, carrying National Route 274 over the rugged Hidaka Range between the Saru and Tokachi river systems. Although modest in elevation, its alpine weather rivals Honshu's 3,000m peaks — the 33km summit section is a designated special-regulation zone for sudden fog and snow. The eastern descent opens onto the vast Tokachi Plain, Japan's agricultural heartland. Best ridden June to October.
