Cerro Tronador — Bariloche to Pampa Linda.
A short but spectacular ride from Bariloche to the foot of Cerro Tronador, the 3,478m thunderer on the Chile-Argentina border. Turquoise Lago Mascardi gives way to a narrow one-way gravel road that climbs to Pampa Linda and the Ventisquero Negro, where ice avalanches rumble off the glacier. Mind the timed one-way traffic schedule.

BarilocheStart · Start in San Carlos de Bariloche. Note: the Pampa Linda road is one-way by timetable — uphill traffic only until early afternoon, downhill after. Check the daily schedule before leaving.
Lago MascardiScenic Point · Glacial lake in shades of jade and turquoise. The pavement ends near here and a narrow gravel road follows the shore toward Tronador.
