The R71 climbs from the Highveld at Polokwane into the misty, forested edge of the Great Escarpment, then plunges through the Magoebaskloof Pass — nearly 600m of descent in 6km of hairpins — into the subtropical Letaba valley. Indigenous forest, waterfalls and tea estates make this Limpopo's greenest ride.

PolokwaneStart · Limpopo's capital on the Highveld. Head east on the R71 toward the Wolkberg and the escarpment; fuel up before the hills.
HaenertsburgScenic Point · Misty highland village famous for cherry blossoms and autumn colour. Gateway to the Magoebaskloof and a good coffee stop before the descent.
Magoebaskloof PassMountain Pass · The R71 drops nearly 600m in 6km of forested hairpins, named after Chief Makgoba. One of the lushest passes in the country.
