Can ThoStart · Start from Can Tho riverfront. The city is the capital of the delta — fuel here and rent a short boat trip to Cai Rang floating market before departure if arriving the evening before.

Cai Rang Floating MarketRestaurant · Vietnam's largest floating market: hundreds of boats trading wholesale fruit and vegetables on the river from 5–9 am. Watch from the bank or hire a sampan. After visiting, the road south begins in earnest.

Soc TrangScenic Point · Khmer minority heartland — the Bat Pagoda (Chua Doi) houses thousands of giant fruit bats hanging from the trees in the courtyard. Also visit Khleang Pagoda for the ornate Khmer architecture.

Bac LieuOvernight · Quiet coastal town once known for its French colonial wealth. Good overnight hotels on the main street. Fill up here — fuel is intermittent in Ca Mau province. Bac Lieu bird sanctuary is worth an early morning visit.
