Can ThoStart · Start from Can Tho riverfront. The city is the capital of the delta — fuel here and rent a short boat trip to Cai Rang floating market before departure if arriving the evening before.
Cai Rang Floating MarketRestaurant · Vietnam's largest floating market: hundreds of boats trading wholesale fruit and vegetables on the river from 5–9 am. Watch from the bank or hire a sampan. After visiting, the road south begins in earnest.
Soc TrangScenic Point · Khmer minority heartland — the Bat Pagoda (Chua Doi) houses thousands of giant fruit bats hanging from the trees in the courtyard. Also visit Khleang Pagoda for the ornate Khmer architecture.
Bac LieuOvernight · Quiet coastal town once known for its French colonial wealth. Good overnight hotels on the main street. Fill up here — fuel is intermittent in Ca Mau province. Bac Lieu bird sanctuary is worth an early morning visit.
Ca Mau CityRestaurant · Capital of the southernmost province — eat at the central market (banh cuon and ca loc fish soup are local specialties). This is the last fuel stop before the cape road south into the U Minh mangrove forest.
Cape Ca Mau — Dat MuiScenic Point · The southernmost point of the Vietnamese mainland, marked by a monument in the middle of a mangrove estuary. The road through U Minh forest is flat, straight and shaded — watch for muddy sections after rain. The cape is accessible by a raised wooden walkway over the mangroves.
Ca Mau CityEnd · Return to Ca Mau city — same road back through U Minh. Late afternoon light over the mangroves is beautiful. Fly or bus north from here, or continue riding the reverse route back to Can Tho.
