The classic Char Dham pilgrimage ride to the source of the Ganga. From Rishikesh the road climbs the Bhagirathi valley past Tehri Lake and Uttarkashi, then narrows through Harsil apple country and the Bhaironghati gorge to Gangotri at 3,100m, where the sacred river emerges below the Gangotri glacier.
