The SC-390 climb over the Serra do Rio do Rastro is Brazil's most celebrated motorcycling road — 284 hairpin bends stacked up a 670m escarpment wall in Santa Catarina's highlands. From the base town of Lauro Müller the road corkscrews to a 1,460m mirante with a jaw-dropping view back down the curves, then rolls across the coldest highlands in southern Brazil to the apple city of São Joaquim.
