Serra Gaúcha Wine Country Loop — Bento Gonçalves toCanela.
Serra Gaúcha Wine Country Loop — Bento Gonçalves to Canela.
Brazil's most celebrated wine road winds through the Serra Gaúcha highlands of Rio Grande do Sul — a region settled by Italian immigrants in the 1870s who terraced the basalt hillsides with vineyards. This 160km loop connects four distinct personalities: Bento Gonçalves, Brazil's sparkling wine capital; Nova Petrópolis, a German colonial festival town; Gramado, Brazil's most European city with Bavarian fondue and occasional snow; and Canela, with its iconic 130m Caracol waterfall. The roads are sweeping, well-maintained, and lined with roadside cantinas selling colonial cheese and salami. One of Brazil's finest single-day rides through a landscape that feels entirely unlike the rest of the country.
