Cañón del Pato — Huaraz to Huallanca via the 35 Tunnels.
The Cañón del Pato is one of Peru's most thrilling rides — the road threads the narrow Santa River gorge between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra, passing through 35 tunnels hand-blasted into sheer rock. Starting in Huaraz, it runs the length of the Callejón de Huaylas past the earthquake-scarred town of Yungay before plunging into the single-lane canyon.

The route.
HuarazStart · Start in Huaraz, capital of Ancash at 3,050m and gateway to the Cordillera Blanca. Fuel and food up — services thin out heading down the valley.
YungayScenic Point · The town buried by a debris avalanche in the 1970 earthquake that killed around 20,000 people. The Campo Santo memorial marks the old town. A sobering pause.
CarazFuel Stop · Last reliable town for fuel, food and water before the canyon. Top up the tank here; the gorge has no services.
Cañón del Pato — The 35 TunnelsPhoto Spot · The heart of the ride: 35 tunnels hand-cut through sheer rock with the Santa River roaring below. Single-lane and dark — sound your horn before each tunnel.
HuallancaEnd · End near the Cañón del Pato hydroelectric plant at Huallanca, where the gorge finally opens out. A hard-earned finish deep in the canyon country.
