A 240km Middle Atlas day loop from the imperial city of Fez through Switzerland-in-Africa Ifrane and the ancient Atlas cedar forests around Azrou, returning via the Jewish-heritage cherry town of Sefrou. Cool air at 1,800m even when Fez bakes at 35C. Wild Barbary macaques sit on the road through the cedar forest and will climb on parked motorcycles. Best ridden April through October β the road can ice over in winter.

Fez Bab BoujloudStart Β· Start at the blue gate of Fes el-Bali. Head south on the N8 toward Imouzzer Kandar. Fuel up at the city edge β cedar-forest stretches have limited stations.
Imouzzer KandarScenic Point Β· Apple-orchard market town in the Middle Atlas foothills at 1,345m. Locals call this the gateway to alpine Morocco. Roadside cherry stalls in late spring.
Ifrane Alpine PlazaPhoto Spot Β· Swiss-style alpine resort at 1,665m built by the French in 1929. Pine-shingle chalets and the famous Lion of Ifrane stone sculpture in the central plaza. Cool air even in summer; snow in winter.
Azrou Atlas Cedar ForestMountain Pass Β· Ancient Atlas cedar forest at 1,800m β some trees over 800 years old. Wild Barbary macaques (apes) gather at roadside picnic spots and will climb onto parked motorcycles. Feed only with vendor-supplied food, never trail mix.
Sefrou Cherry CapitalRestaurant Β· Lunch in Sefrou β Moroccos Jewish-heritage town and cherry capital, 30km southeast of Fez. The walled medina sits beside the Aggai river. Try cherry tagine in season (June).
Fez Medina ReturnEnd Β· Return to Fez. The Bab Boujloud blue gate glows in the evening light. Park outside the medina β the worlds largest car-free urban area is no place for a motorcycle.
