Mitake Shosenkyo Gorge — Kofu to Sengataki Falls.
Mitake Shosenkyo, north of Kofu, is often called Japan's most beautiful gorge. A one-way road threads beneath 180m granite pillars along the emerald Arakawa to Sengataki Falls at its head. Short but spectacular, especially in November when the maples turn — an easy half-day escape from the Koshu wine valley.
