Notsuke Peninsula — Shibetsu to the Nemuro Strait Sandspit.
A flat, otherworldly coastal ride out onto Notsuke, Japan's longest sandspit, curving 26km into the Nemuro Strait. The road runs past ghost forests of bleached dead trees, vast tidal flats teeming with waterfowl, and views across the water to Russian-held Kunashiri Island. Remote, windswept, and utterly unlike anywhere else in Japan.
