Georgian Military Highway — Tbilisi to Kazbegi.

One of the Caucasus's greatest motorcycle roads: 220km from Tbilisi north through the Greater Caucasus to medieval Kazbegi beneath Mt Kazbek (5,047m). The S3 crosses the Jvari Pass at 2,395m with the Caucasus Main Ridge stretching to both horizons. Ananuri Castle, Gudauri ski resort, and the Gergeti Trinity Church perched on a 2,170m hilltop make this one of Europe's most dramatic day rides.

TbilisiStart · Start in Tbilisi's Old Town (Kala). The Military Highway (S3) heads north. Leave by 8am for the best mountain light and to avoid tourist crowds at Ananuri.

Mtskheta — Jvari MonasteryScenic Point · 6th-century cross-church above the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. UNESCO World Heritage. The panorama of both river valleys from the hilltop is extraordinary. 20-minute stop before the road climbs.

Ananuri CastlePhoto Spot · 17th-century clan fortress on the Zhinvali reservoir — towers and a domed church reflected in turquoise water. One of Georgia's most photogenic sites. Short detour off the highway.

GudauriScenic Point · Ski resort at 2,196m with jaw-dropping views down the Aragvi valley. The road climbs 1,000m above the valley floor in sweeping curves. The panorama terrace near the ski lifts has the best viewpoint.

Jvari Pass 2,395mMountain Pass · Highest point of the Military Highway. The Caucasus Main Ridge stretches east and west. Snow patches persist year-round. Can be icy in spring mornings — check conditions.

Stepantsminda / KazbegiScenic Point · Village beneath Mt Kazbek — Georgia's third-highest peak at 5,047m. The mountain fills the entire sky. Well-equipped for riders: guesthouses, cafés, and basic gear shops.
