The least-travelled corner of La Rioja. In the far southeastern tip, the LR-284 threads the Alhama valley between limestone cliffs where the largest griffon-vulture colony in the region wheels overhead. Along the way sits Contrebia Leukade, one of the best-preserved Celtiberian cities in Spain, carved partly into the rock. Remote, empty and quietly spectacular — an out-and-back up to Aguilar and its border-country landscapes.
