Austria is one of Europe's premier motorcycle destinations, anchored by the legendary Grossglockner High Alpine Road — a 48-kilometre masterpiece of engineering with 36 hairpins, culminating at 2,504 metres with views of Austria's highest peak. The Timmelsjoch, Silvretta, and Gerlos passes add depth to the Tyrolean and Salzburg alps riding.

The season runs from May through October, with high passes opening in late May or early June. Austria's toll system charges for specific alpine roads (Grossglockner is approximately €30 for motorcycles) in addition to the general motorway vignette. These tolls fund superb road maintenance — the surfaces are among the best in Europe.

Austrian riding culture is strong, with dedicated motorcycle meetups at pass summits and well-marked touring routes. The country is compact enough to use a single base (Innsbruck, Salzburg, or Zell am See) and reach multiple passes in day trips. Fuel is readily available, and roadside gasthauses serve hearty meals at summit stops.
