Quebrada de las Flechas — Cachi to Cafayate.
One of South America's great gravel rides: the Ruta 40 run south through the Calchaquí Valleys from colonial Cachi to the wine town of Cafayate. The centrepiece is the Quebrada de las Flechas, where sandstone slabs tilted almost vertical form narrow gorges of stone 'arrows'. Adobe villages, high-desert vineyards and 160km of legendary road make this a rider's favourite.

CachiStart · Start in colonial Cachi and drop south onto the legendary gravel of Ruta 40 through the Calchaquí Valleys.
MolinosScenic Point · 17th-century adobe village around a fine white church. Quiet plaza and vineyards — a good spot for coffee before the wild stretch ahead.
AngastacoFuel Stop · Small wine village at 1,990m. Last reliable fuel and water before the Quebrada. The local bodega pours a rustic torrontés.
Quebrada de las FlechasPhoto Spot · The highlight — sharp sandstone arrows tilted skywards form narrow gorges up to 20m high. Stop at the El Ventisquero viewpoint. Declared a provincial natural monument.
San CarlosRestaurant · Where the gravel ends and pavement returns. Old wine town with craft shops — lunch here before the easy final run to Cafayate.
