Germany offers diverse motorcycle touring from the twisting roads of the Black Forest and Bavarian Alps to the gentle curves of the Romantic Road and Moselle Valley. The unrestricted sections of the Autobahn are famous, but the real riding pleasure is on the Bundesstrassen (federal roads) and Landesstrassen (state roads) that wind through forests and river valleys.
Germany can be ridden year-round in lower-altitude areas, though the Bavarian Alps and Black Forest high routes are best from May through October. The country's central position makes it an excellent base for multi-country tours — the Austrian, Swiss, and French borders are all within a day's ride of Munich.
German roads are exceptionally well-maintained, and the country has a strong motorcycle culture with numerous touring clubs and events. Fuel stations are everywhere, and roadside rest stops are clean and well-equipped. The Eifel region near the Nürburgring and the Harz Mountains in central Germany are underrated riding areas that deserve exploration.
