Doi Lang — Fang Frontier Sky Road.
A demanding day loop over Doi Lang, the 2,100m frontier ridge on the Myanmar border in Chiang Mai's far north. Route 1249 climbs from Fang through rhododendron and winter cherry blossom to one of Thailand's great birding and adventure roads, then drops the east side to the Kok River at Tha Ton before looping back through Mae Ai.

FangStart · Start in Fang, hot-springs town in Chiang Mai's far north. Fuel up — the Doi Lang road has no services once you climb.
Doi Lang Summit RidgeMountain Pass · Climb Route 1249 to the ~2,100m frontier ridge on the Myanmar border. Rhododendrons, winter cherry blossom, and one of Thailand's top birding roads. Rough and steep in patches.
Tha TonRestaurant · Descend the east side to Tha Ton on the Kok River. Wat Tha Ton's hillside terraces overlook the valley; lunch by the water.
Mae AiScenic Point · Quiet border-district town among lychee orchards. Rejoin Route 107 south for the run back.
FangEnd · Loop back to Fang. Soak in the hot springs to end the day.
