Farellones & Valle Nevado — Santiago's Andes Switchbacks.
Santiago backyard adrenaline. The G-21 road leaves the city and, from the Corral Quemado bridge, throws 40 tight hairpin switchbacks up the mountainside to Farellones at 2,340m, then continues to La Parva and Valle Nevado — the highest ski resort in the Andes. Short in distance, enormous in elevation. Note the strict uphill/downhill timing windows in ski season.

The route.
Santiago — Lo BarnecheaStart · Start on the eastern edge of the city where the G-21 begins to climb. Fuel here — there is none on the mountain.
Puente Corral QuemadoPhoto Spot · The bridge where the numbered hairpins begin. In ski season the road is one-way: uphill only 08:30–13:30. Check the schedule.
Farellones (2,340m)Mountain Pass · The old ski village at the top of the 40 curves. Coffee with a view straight back down the switchbacks to Santiago.
La ParvaScenic Point · Chalet ski resort clinging to the ridge. The road is narrow and steep — take it easy on cold or damp tarmac.
Valle NevadoEnd · End at the highest resort in the Andes with a 360° panorama of the cordillera. Time your descent to the afternoon downhill window.
