Legendary among hardcore Australian riders, the Bonang Highway runs 175km north from Orbost on the Gippsland coast to Bombala on the NSW Monaro tablelands. The route crosses Errinundra National Park's ancient cool-temperate rainforest — 100+ km of unrelenting advisory-posted corners, no overtaking lanes, and the sudden possibility of a logging truck around the next blind hairpin. Newly sealed end-to-end (2024), but petrol stations are 130km apart. Fill tank fully at Orbost. Not for the faint-hearted.

OrbostStart · Last fuel before 130km of wilderness — fill tank to the brim. Coffee at Marlo Road Bakery. Turn north onto the C612 Bonang Highway. The corners start within 10km.
GoongerahScenic Point · Tiny logging hamlet in Errinundra National Park. Cool-temperate rainforest dominates — myrtle beech, sassafras, tree ferns. Watch for logging trucks descending blind hairpins. No services.
Bonang VillageScenic Point · Sole roadhouse on the Bonang section. Last chance for water before the NSW border. The road climbs out of the rainforest onto the Monaro plateau from here — corners ease.
DelegateRestaurant · First NSW town after the wilderness. Country pub lunch at the Delegate Hotel — schnitzel and a cold beer. The advisory-posted twisties have ended; tablelands sweepers ahead.
BombalaEnd · End in Bombala on the Monaro plateau — wide skies, big paddocks, trout fishing capital of NSW. The Globe Hotel does country accommodation if continuing north to Canberra tomorrow.
