A short but relentless alpine climb — around 30 hairpins in 30 kilometres — from the Kiewa valley town of Mount Beauty up onto the Bogong High Plains. The road passes the hydro village of Bogong and Lake Guy before topping out at Falls Creek and the vast Rocky Valley reservoir, Victoria's highest large lake. Closed by snow in winter.

Mount BeautyStart · Start in Mount Beauty at the foot of the climb. Fuel up here — there is none on the high plains. The road begins climbing almost immediately.
Bogong Village & Lake GuyScenic Point · Purpose-built 1930s hydro-scheme village beside pretty Lake Guy. A quiet stop among the mountain ash before the switchbacks steepen.
Falls Creek VillageRestaurant · The alpine resort village at 1,600m. In summer the ski runs are green and the cafés stay open — a good coffee and photo stop.
Rocky Valley DamEnd · End at the Rocky Valley Storage — Victoria's highest major reservoir, ringed by snow gums and alpine meadow. Turn back here in winter when the road beyond closes.
